Geosynthetic Clay Liner (GCL)

Sodium bentonite sandwiched between geotextiles — a self-healing clay barrier.

GCL combines sodium bentonite with woven and nonwoven geotextiles through needle-punching. On hydration it forms a gel-type waterproofing layer with permeability as low as 5.0×10⁻¹¹ m/s, ideal for landfills, artificial lakes and underground structures.

Features

  • Self-healing: bentonite swells to seal small punctures
  • Very low permeability (≤ 5.0×10⁻¹¹ m/s)
  • Fast, dry installation — no welding required
  • High tensile and peel strength needle-punched structure

Applications

  • Landfill base and capping systems
  • Artificial lakes, ponds and canals
  • Underground garages and basements
  • Roof gardens and pools
  • Oil depots and chemical storage yards
